His reporting work earned him recognition for on-the-ground coverage of major events.

He has continued to anchor the morning show every weekday from the early hours, becoming a trusted voice for commuters across the GTA.

Morning Show Team and Colleagues at 680 News

The 680 News morning show runs on a team format with rotating contributors rather than a fixed two-anchor pairing.

Across his years on the morning desk, Paul has worked daily with senior business editor Mike Eppel on business segments and with reporters, including Richard Southern, the station’s Queen’s Park reporter, who started at 680 News as an intern and worked overnights, weekends, and the business desk before moving into politics.

Other verified 680 News colleagues across his tenure include longtime reporter and anchor Scott Metcalfe, veteran broadcaster Peter Gross, and political affairs reporter John Stall.

Paul also worked closely with his wife Stephanie Smyth, who served as an on-air anchor and news director at 680 News from 1993 until the mid 2000s.

2001: Helps 680 News Reach One Million Listeners

In 2001, Paul was part of the team that helped 680 News reach one million listeners for the first time in its history.

This was a major milestone for the station and for all news radio in Canada.

He has called this achievement one of the proudest moments of his professional career.

Television Work

Alongside his radio role, Paul has also worked extensively in television.

He hosted Agenda, a one-hour public affairs show that aired on MSNBC Canada and later on Omni and Rogers Cable, for three years.

He has also served as a guest host on Goldhawk, a TV call-in show on Rogers Cable hosted by veteran Canadian broadcaster Dale Goldhawk.

2005: 20 Years at Rogers Radio

By this stage, he was already established as one of Toronto’s most familiar morning news voices.

In February 2017, CityNews and 680 News marked Paul Cook’s 20-year milestone as host of the 680 News morning show.
