Before joining CBC, Milewski worked in several roles, and later moved to Canada where he also worked in local radio.

He started working with CBC in 1978 as a local reporter in Calgary. He later moved into national reporting roles and covered stories across Canada and internationally, including assignments in Ottawa, Calgary, and Jerusalem, as well as reporting across Europe, the Middle East, South America, and the United States.

Along with his reporting work, he also appeared on CBC’s political program Power & Politics. The show was initially hosted by Evan Solomon

After Solomon’s dismissal in June 2015, Rosemary Barton served as interim host, with Milewski listed as a back-up. 

After Barton left in 2017, interim hosts included David Cochrane, Catherine Cullen, and Terry himself.

He retired from CBC in September 2016, after 38 years with the broadcaster, and continued contributing for a period after retirement.

Along with reporting for CBC News across TV, radio, and print, Milewski also appeared on major CBC current affairs programs. He was a Senior Correspondent on The National, and he helped set up The National bureau in Jerusalem, becoming its first Middle East correspondent.

After retirement, he continued writing. In 2021, he published Blood for Blood: Fifty Years of the Global Khalistan Project with HarperCollins India.

Terry Milewski became part of a major dispute linked to CBC coverage of the 1997 APEC summit protests in Vancouver. The Prime Minister’s Office complained to CBC about his reporting and accused him of bias. 

CBC’s ombudsman later reviewed his APEC-related TV reports and his communications with sources and concluded his reports were accurate and fair.

During the same period, Milewski was suspended by CBC. Reporting about the dispute says he received unpaid suspensions totalling 18 days tied to the APEC coverage issue.

  • Sikh documentary lawsuit (2007)

In 2007, Milewski reported a CBC documentary that discussed Sikh extremism and political influence in Canada. 

The World Sikh Organization (WSO) sued CBC and Milewski, saying the documentary linked the group to terrorism and harmed its reputation. 

Later, the WSO abandoned its claims, and the documentary stayed on CBC’s website without changes.

  • Defamation claim linked to a Khalistan article (2020)

In 2020, he wrote an article for the Macdonald-Laurier Institute about the Khalistan movement.
