Meet Bettina Dorfmann, the 62-year-old superfan from Germany who holds the record for the largest collection of Barbie dolls since 2005, according to Guinness World Records.

Barbie, the iconic doll created by American toy company Mattel in 1959, quickly gained worldwide fame, captivating the hearts of children everywhere. From various races to numerous careers, Barbie dolls came in diverse versions that fascinated kids and collectors alike.

Bettina’s passion for Barbie began over 30 years ago. Although she officially started collecting seriously in 1993, her first Barbie was received at the tender age of five in 1966. Fondly reminiscing about her childhood memories with Barbie, Bettina cherishes the time spent playing with these beloved dolls.

Her collection of Barbie dolls has only grown since she surpassed the previous record holder, Tony Mattia from the UK, who had 1,125 dolls. Bettina now boasts an astounding collection of 18,500 Barbie dolls.

Not content with just collecting, Bettina Dorfmann has turned her hobby into a successful career. She exhibits her dolls and writes books about Barbie. In addition, she runs a unique ‘doll hospital,’ where she expertly repairs dolls for others.

Her journey as a ‘Barbie doctor’ began back in the 90s when she started fixing her own dolls and purchasing replacement parts. Soon, other collectors at toy trade fairs sought her skills to restore their dolls’ hair, and makeup, and even replace missing eyelashes.

Having witnessed dolls in terrible conditions at toy fairs, Bettina took on the role of a skilled doll restorer. For her repair services, she charges a reasonable fee ranging from $5.60 for quick on-the-spot fixes to $336.01 for more complex repairs that require greater time and effort.

Recently, Bettina’s excitement escalated with the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie, featuring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Eager to add these new dolls to her collection, she already placed her order for the latest film’s dolls.

Bettina Dorfmann’s love for Barbie has truly become a lifelong pursuit, making her a standout figure among Barbie enthusiasts worldwide. Her passion, dedication, and unique expertise continue to bring joy to both young and old fans of the iconic doll.
