Bhavesh Bhatia’s incredible journey is a testament to passion, perseverance, and innovation. Hailing from a small town, Bhavesh had always nurtured a deep interest in technology and entrepreneurship. His determination led him to achieve remarkable success.
Not Born Blind
Bhavesh’s inspiring journey began with a sighted childhood. However, at the age of 23, life took an unexpected turn when he lost his vision due to an internal eye-related issue. Undeterred, he worked as a hotel manager to support his mother’s cancer treatment, despite facing bullying during his school days with hurtful nicknames.
Candle Making Training
In 1999, Bhavesh Bhatia enrolled in training at the National Association for the Blind in Mumbai. There, he learned the art of making plain candles. Every night, he diligently crafted candles and sold them from a cart at a local market in Mahabaleshwar. Saving every penny, he invested in raw supplies for the next day’s production.
Rejected For Loans
Bhavesh Bhatia faced numerous challenges, especially when seeking loans due to his visual impairment. However, his fortunes changed when he secured a Rs 15,000 loan from Satara Bank, which specifically supported blind individuals. With this financial boost, he started Sunrise Candles, laying the foundation for a highly successful multi-crore business.
From humble beginnings, Sunrise Candles has grown exponentially. Producing an impressive range of 9000 designs, including plain, scented, and aromatherapy candles, the company now utilizes twenty-five tonnes of wax daily.
Helping Those In Need
Today, Bhavesh’s company employs over one thousand people, many of whom are visually impaired. His initiatives have provided training in employment and self-employment to approximately 10,000+ visually impaired and divyang individuals, making a significant impact on their lives.
