At the tender age of six, tragedy struck when a political conflict led to the destruction of his family’s business in a fire. Upon completing his Class 12 education, Malay embarked on a courageous journey to Delhi armed with only 100 rupees from his mother. His initial job involved menial tasks of washing dishes and cleaning tables for a caterer. Despite the grueling workload, Malay’s dedication and work ethic stood out, earning him not only the owner’s trust but also a substantial increase in his wages.
Driven by ambition and a thirst for growth, Malay transitioned to a supervisory role at an event management firm in Delhi. Concurrently, he pursued and completed a course in hotel management through the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). This phase broadened his horizons, fostering valuable connections that eventually became pivotal in launching his venture – Debnath Caterers and Decorators.
Today, Malay’s entrepreneurial spirit shines brightly as he oversees the management of more than 35 army mess facilities across multiple cities, contributing to a staggering net worth of approximately Rs 200 crore. His success extends beyond catering, encompassing tea gardens in North Bengal.
