Sandie Rinaldo joined CTV’s news division in 1973, shortly after graduating from York University.
She started in the newsroom and later moved into production and research work for W5, before becoming a reporter for CTV National News and Canada AM.
In 1980, she became the news anchor for Canada AM. This made her the first woman in Canada to hold a full-time role as a national news anchor.
Along with CTV National News, she has been closely linked with W5. York University notes that she began co-hosting W5 in 2004 with veteran anchor Lloyd Robertson.
Rinaldo became the weekend anchor of CTV National News in 1985, a role she has held for decades. She has been the weekend anchor for more than 35 years.
From 1988 to 1991, she also worked as a co-anchor with Tom Gibney on the local World Beat News on CFTO (CTV Toronto).
She has also filled in on the weekday national newscast as a substitute anchor after Lloyd Robertson’s retirement in 2011, including substituting for his successor, Lisa LaFlamme.
In 2023, CTV marked her 50th year with the network with TV specials, including I’m Sandie Rinaldo (aired May 12, 2023) and Sandie Rinaldo’s 50/50 (aired September 19, 2023).
