He was born on 12 June 1979 (47 years old) in Kakuturivaripalem, a village near Tangutur, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Fondly referred to as the “Action Star” and “Macho Star”, Tottempudi has carved a niche for himself through high-octane action entertainers over a two decades film career.

He is known for his acting performances in Pantham, Chanakya, and Nijam.

Gopichand was born into a family deeply rooted in Telugu cinema for producing social and patriotic films. 

Education

Gopichand completed his early schooling at Nil Desperandum School in Ongole. It was an institution established by his father.

He was 8 years old when his father died.

Later, he studied at Ramakrishna Mission School in Chennai. 

He then moved to Russia, where he completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

Around this time, his older brother, who worked as an associate director at Muthyala Subbaiah, died in a car accident.

Upon returning to India, he took a year-long dialogue modulation course to prepare for a career in acting, following in his father’s footsteps.

During that time, he became close friends with actor Prabhas, and 2 film directors named V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati. Both directors co-own a production house, UV Creations.

Gopichand began his acting career as a lead with the Telugu film Tholi Valapu in 2001.

From Protogonist To Well-Known Antagonist (2002)

In 2002, he transitioned to playing an antagonist in the commercial blockbuster Jayam opposite Nitin.

His menacing portrayal of the villain Raghu following the positive reception, he reprised the same role in the Tamil-language remake of Jayam (2003).

Continuous Villain Centic Roles (2003-2004)

In 2003, he continued in the villain space with Nijam opposite Mahesh Babu.

In the next year, he appeared in the action drama Varsham opposite Prabhas and Trisha Krishnan, playing another antagonist role.
