Naseeruddin Shah was born in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, into an aristocratic Nawab family tracing their roots back to a 19th-century Afghan warlord.

Naseeruddin Shah began his acting career in films in 1975 and slowly became one of the most respected actors in Indian cinema.

Over time, he worked in parallel cinema, commercial Hindi films, theatre, television, international films, web series, documentaries, and hosting projects.

Naseeruddin Shah Books and Autobiography

Naseeruddin Shah is also a published author. His memoir, And Then One Day: A Memoir, was published by Penguin in 2014. He began writing it around 2002, partly during the long shoot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and described the book as an exorcism of sorts, written for his children. Historian Ramachandra Guha encouraged him to publish it.
